Eryn’s First Group of Random Movies Reviews ^_^’’

Another note to my pseudo-readers who I don’t have.  Yes, another review, just as random with surprising themes I didn’t even foresee, but this is sadly much more dangerous then the last…for this review is on movies.  Yes, my one and only true love and passion, movies.  Ok, more of an unhealthy obsession (I warned all of you that I had some unhealthy ones) (all these health references are very ironic considering I’m writing this because I’m home sick and when I’m sick I watch mad amounts of movies) and here we go, with all my sick weekend/day movies.

Grosse Point Blank- “Where are all the good men dead; in the heart or in the head?” Ok, any movie that includes that quote, John Cusack, Minnie Driver, Jeremy Piven, Hank Azaria, wondrous 80’s music, comedy, romance, and professional killers has got to be fantastic.  And so it is with this movie.  Premise- A professional killer goes back home to Grosse Point, Michigan to his high school reunion.  Ok, obviously there’s more to it then that, but still.  This movie is filled with good quotes and wonderful lines (but then again with that cast, how could it not be? And ok, I did leave some of the people out, but I included all the best ones and that is the point, obviously).  Wonderful mix of dark comedy in my opinion, and a completely worthwhile movie.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon- “A faithful heart makes wishes come true.”  Ok, now I’m not gonna be able to spell the actors’ names without getting out the movie, so I’ll go without for now.  This is an absolutely amazing movie, beautiful cinematography, scenery (both human and landscape), costumes, story, sets, just about everything.  Oh, there is so much good about this movie.  The only thing is that its extremely sad, and if you can’t put up with an eastern and more realistic (ish, completely ignoring the flying etc) ending, then this movie is not for you.  But not everyone recognizes an amazing movie when they see it, and this most definitely qualifies. (not to mention the desert scene is…heh, lets just say worthwhile and leave it at that)

Zoolander- Um…no good quote really, at least not that I could spell, this movie is incredibly stupid ^_^.  But it’s also incredibly funny, so its all good, right?  Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrill (or however its spelled)(who I actually don’t like, but oh well) and mad amounts of cameos.  And horny Sherpas, goats, and dwarves.  But anyway, there’s David Bowie for my brother Aaron, so do I really need anything else?  Oh yeah, a quote…”Remember, words can only hurt you if you try to read them…don’t play their game.”

About a Boy- Very good movie kids.  Good actors, good messages, good lines, good accents, good songs, good-ness.  Who could resist Hugh Grant singing with his eyes closed?  Kill me softly baby…
Shake your ass, watch yourself!

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil- “Go now, and don’t ya dare look back.”  Oh, so much mad love for John Cusack, Kevin Spacey, and the Lady Chablis (at least, I think that’s how you spell it).  All incredibly good actors (or showgirls, in Chablis/Frank’s case) (c’mon, what isn’t improved with trannies?).  Incredibly good story, and true at that.  Its Gone with the Wind on mescaline ^_^.  Set in Savannah, which is absolutely gorgeous.  And it has Jude Law!  Ignoring that he dies about twenty minutes into the movie…But this movie has many many good lines, good scenery (once again both in people and places) and all around goodness.  Once again, I highly recommend it.  The book as well, which I am currently in the middle (AKA about 60 pages) of.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert- Trannies again, but Guy Pearce trannie, so there is no problem whatsoever, especially considering he wanders around in underwear half the time.  And once again, good accents.  And Agent Smith (who for some twisted reason, my entire family calls Mr. Anderson, completely ignoring the fact that Mr. Anderson was Keanau Reeves) who was also Elron (go elfy ears, c’mon, in both movies he was basically wearing a dress…now I’m going to be hunted down and shot with arrows by all LOTR fans…) who is occasionally known as Hugo Weaving.  But this movie is funny and has some really quite touching moments with Hugo Weaving and his pseudo-son.  And is ultimately a worthwhile movie, so I recommend it.

The Royal Tenenbaums- Wonderful movie!  Anything with Sparkplug and Buckley and Dalmatian mice has got to be good in its own right, but this has comedy and twisted semi-incestuous romance (but she was adopted, so its really not a problem, is it?  But then you get to thinking about all the twisted movie/real life connections with the whole Gwenyth Paltrow (forgive all spelling mistakes, please) made out with Owen Wilson in the movie and Luke Wilson and Owen Wilson are brothers and in the movie Paltrow is sister to Luke Wilson and then in real life Luke Wilson and Gwenyth Paltrow were dating…oh its all too confusing to think about).  But this movie is unbelievably quirky and wonderful, and, ok, not for everyone, but none of my taste is, so watch if you’re willing to be exposed to something new and pretty different.

Kissing Jessica Stein- Another good movie, with a wonderfully incredible monologue that’s actually in a deleted scene, so its pointless to mention it.  But its about a lesbianism and its very very good, and there’s –nothing- questionable about it, thank you very much, for all my Ratchety readers.  But its cute, and funny, and has a really really good and positive ending and overall a really good positive message that basically is to be true to yourself, which, lets face it, is almost every movie’s message, but oh well.  It’s still a good movie.

Chasing Amy- Its Kevin Smith.  You really shouldn’t need to know anything else.  If you’re going to be picky, though, I’ll mention that its incredibly good, speaks large truths about double standards, and is also, ironically, about a lesbian.  And the only disappointing thing about this movie is that she ends up hooking up with him.  But it’s a classic Kevin Smith mix of fact and fantastical, and, once again, completely worthwhile, though guys tend to not like this movie as much as girls…hmm…the truth hurts, don’t it boys?

Almost Famous- Good movie, good music, good actors, where’s the problem?

And seeing as I’m getting less and less creative with these, I think I’ll stop.  So here’s a list of good movies for the masses…ENJOY!
