A Love Story
As a girl I always looked up to the super
hero women of this world. Like Super Women and Stephanie Plum from
the Janet Evanovich books. Okay so Stephanie wasn’t a super hero
but a bounty hunter. She was still an amazing cool female character
that I could look up to. I want to be a bounty hunter, only I’m 16
and I’ve never heard of a company that bonds people out of jail.
I live just out of Chicago in Oakpark.
The houses are all old and close
together, and you have to park your car in the alley behind the house.
I grew up here, and it really hasn’t changed since I was born. People
still like the big American cars, they take pride in their homes, and dirty
windows were the scandal of the street. My house was so old it had
the big vents on the floor, that rattled and kept you up at night.
Tonight the vents were making even
more noise. I rolled over in my nice soft bed. Thankful I had
another five hours before I had to wake up and go to school. Life
is to simple in Oakpark. Nothing happens in this part of town, no
one robs the local Ma and Pop’s, no crazed lunatics hiding behind any corner,
and the police get fat at the local doughnut shops. I wish something
exciting would happen. Simple life is just to dull and boring.
The roar of a big truck made my
house shutter. I slowly pulled myself up in bed to look across the
street. Trucks don’t usually come down this street, and it was especially
unusual to see a moving van down this street. Rarely people moved
away, it was really uncommon. But sadly, the old woman who lived
across the street had passed away last month. She was a nice old
lady, who gave out the giant candy bars for halloween. Her house
looked extremely vacant and slightly scary in the moonlight. I was
so used to it being vacant, and now someones moving into the house.
I stare across the street.
It looks like I typical family, a mother, a father, a young little girl,
and a... hold up! Teenage boy? Ugh, it’s to dark out to tell
if he’s cute. I wonder why they’re moving in at the middle of the
night? I watched them for a while but then sleep got the better of
me.
I awoke to a loud buzzing in my
ear. I hit the alarm clock and it went sailing across the room and
smashed against the opposite wall. I sat up in bed and squinted through
the darkness. I hate mornings. I really do. I got up
and went into the bathroom, and stared back at my reflection. My
brown hair was sticking to the side of my head and my make-up from the
day before was now black underneath my eyes. Disgusted with the reflection,
I hopped in the shower.
When I got out of the shower, my
hair looked better, but the make-up was now running down my cheeks.
I wiped it off using lotion and tissues. I got dressed and put on
some make-up. Throughly satisfied with my appearance I ran down stairs,
said ‘goodbye’ to my parents and ran out the door.
I have the best car. It’s
beautiful! My parents got it for me when I got my license.
Well it’s a black sting ray from the 1970’s. They baught it cheap.
I love my parents but my dad has the mentality of a teletubby and well
I come from a long line of very scary women. My grandma was banned
from her senior home, because she bought a gun and it went off and shot
a lady in the foot. What they left out of the papers is that she
meant to shoot her.
I got to school, and went to my
first hour, since I didn’t have anything better to do. Then I noticed
the new boy. I wasn’t sure, but he was probably the boy who moved
in across the street. He was sitting in the back, looking very bored.
He had spikey milk chocolate brown hair and deep blue eyes. My heart
stopped when I caught his gaze. I blushed. Oh god, he must
have noticed me staring at him. My face felt hot. I turned
around and he was still staring at me. His gaze softened and he smiled.
“Hi, I’m Darien, I’m new here.”
He got up and my heart started thumping in my chest as he walked toward
me. He sat in a chair opposite me and then he smiled at me again.
“Hi, I’m Serena.” I somehow
managed to force out, even though my mouth was like cotton.
“Cute name.” He grinned at
me. What am I supposed to say?! I don’t know!
“Uh... Thanks” I say weakly then
smile at him. The bell rang and a bunch of other people walked into the
classroom and everybody sat down. I notice him glance back over at
me.
“Hey, um since I’m new here, I thought
maybe you could tell me what’s cool to do around here?” He leaned
over close to me.
“Um... Well not much, mostly hanging
out at teen clubs and what not.” I pretened to act cool. I shrugged.
“Well maybe we could go to a club
this friday?” He was still leaning close to me.
“Umm... Sure!” I smile at him.
“Great, then it’s a date.”
I look over at him. What a date?! Okay, even though I’m 16,
I’ve never been on a date before. I tried not to look to surprised.
I bit my lip. He smiled at me and his look focused on my lips.
“Class it’s time to get started”
said my teacher and we turned away from each other. I have a date
for friday. He’s cute, I don’t really know him, but he’s cute!
I’ll get to know him and it will be great. This got me to thinking.
What would I wear friday?
